Occlusal Adjustment

Occlusal Adjustment is a treatment method that is used to alleviate excessive forces on specific teeth through gentle recontouring of the biting surfaces of the teeth. The method involves no anesthesia and re-establishes an even bite. As a result of the treatment, the pressure on certain teeth is removed allowing them to function in coordination with the rest of the teeth in the mouth.

Occlusal adjustment is used when there is tooth pain from a traumatic bite or when periodontal problems have been worsened as a result of a combination of trauma from the bite and an existing periodontal inflammation. In cases of TMJ dysfunction, occlusal adjustment is used in combination with night guards to resolve the problem.
