Managing Bleeding Gums Is Possible

Managing Bleeding Gums Is PossibleIf you notice your gums start to bleed when you brush them, it could be a sign that you have gingivitis, the early form of gum disease. It could also be a sign that you are brushing too hard or that you need to use a different toothbrush.

Whatever the reason, over half of all people deal with bleeding gums at some point in their lives. If your gums have been bleeding, here are a few tips for managing the issue.

Brush Often

Bleeding gums are likely caused by bacteria. These bacteria have started damaging your gums, making them more susceptible to bleeding. To get rid of this bacteria, you need to be brushing at least twice a day, especially if you eat a meal heavy in sugars or have a large dessert.

Brush Correctly

If you're brushing every day with a hard-bristled toothbrush, however, you may be doing more harm than good. Besides brushing regularly, you also need to make certain you're brushing correctly. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and don't press too hard. You also want to brush using circular motions up around the gum line and all the way down the tooth. Brush your tongue, too, so that you don't leave any bacteria there.

Many people skip flossing or only floss every now and then. However, flossing is just as important as brushing and should be done once a day. It helps to remove any food particles that get stuck between the teeth and other areas that your toothbrush simply cannot reach.

See Us Regularly

Finally, while your home oral health regime will help cut back on the damage done, only a professional cleaning can remove all the harmful bacteria in your mouth. You need to come see us regularly so we can keep your gums as healthy as possible.
