What is the Main Cause of periodontal Disease?

Can Mouthwash Make Treating Gum Disease a Little Easier?

Gum disease, gingivitis, whatever you want to call it is a serious condition. If left unchecked, it will lead to periodontitis, and that can result in losing teeth.

When your gums pull away from your teeth, it creates pockets that bacteria can quickly build up in. While brushing and flossing regularly can help you deal with gum disease, what about mouthwash? Can it help make the treatment process any easier?

Mouthwash and Gum Disease

Mouthwash will help kill the bad bacteria in your mouth, so it can certainly help you prevent gum disease before it starts. Fortunately, it can also help reverse gingivitis, so it’s definitely something to have in your arsenal against gum disease.

Many people use mouthwash daily when they brush their teeth, but if you don’t, it may be a good idea to add it to your routine. Try using mouthwash a couple of times a day to help combat gingivitis. Using travel mouthwash after lunch is a great way of cleaning out your mouth while at work or on the go.

The Benefits of Mouthwash

Mouthwash can get down into the pockets created from your gums pulling away from your teeth, while toothbrushes often can’t. This means you can use mouthwash to help clean out the bacteria that have taken up residence in these pockets.

In addition to killing bacteria, it will also help freshen your breath and make your mouth taste clean. Since one of the symptoms of gingivitis is bad breath, this can certainly be a nice extra benefit!

Mouthwash may not be able to defeat gum disease on its own, but it can certainly make treating the condition a little easier. There are so many mouthwashes on the market, though, that it can be difficult to determine which one is best for you. If you’re not certain, give us a call. We can help you find the perfect mouthwash.
