Comprehensive Dentistry and Cleanings in Roslyn Heights
A healthy smile starts with care that looks at the whole picture. Regular dental visits give your care team a chance to clean your teeth, check for changes and help you make informed decisions about your oral health. Whether it has been six months or several years since your last visit, we’re here to help you take the next step.
What is comprehensive dentistry?
Comprehensive dentistry considers your teeth, gums and overall oral health together. During an exam, your dentist looks for signs of concerns such as cavities, gum disease, worn or damaged teeth, and changes in the soft tissues of your mouth. Your dentist may recommend X-rays when they would provide useful information that cannot be seen during the exam.
We’ll also ask about any symptoms or goals you have, from a sensitive tooth to improving the appearance of your smile. If you need treatment, we’ll explain what we found, discuss your options and help you understand what to address first.
Why are professional cleanings important?
Brushing and cleaning between your teeth at home are essential, but plaque can harden into tartar that requires professional removal. During a routine cleaning, a dental hygienist removes buildup from your teeth and polishes them. They may also check your gums and offer suggestions for caring for your smile between visits.
Some patients need a different type of cleaning to treat gum disease. Your dental team will explain the recommendation if that applies to you.
What can I expect at my visit?
Your appointment may include a review of your health history, an examination, a cleaning and X-rays if needed. The services recommended will depend on your oral health and the reason for your visit. Before you leave, we’ll talk through any findings and help you plan your next steps.
The right schedule for exams and cleanings varies from person to person. Your dentist will recommend a visit schedule based on your needs.
