Can You Improve Your Heart Health by Treating Gum Disease?
Were you aware that if you did not properly treat gum disease, it can affect your health? It’s true. It can damage things like your heart and your brain, according to numerous types of research.
So, if you do not treat gum disease, it can cause trouble with your heart, but is the reverse also true? There is some evidence that it decreases your risk of issues down the line. However, the best thing you can do is to try and avoid any type of damage in the first place.
Gum Disease is No Joke
The plaque in your mouth hurts your gums and all of your oral tissues. We all know that. That is why you get a dental cleaning every six months on top of what you do on a daily basis to keep your mouth healthy and clean. However, what you may not realize is that if you leave that plaque in your mouth, it can lead to bigger problems. The plaque can move, causing deposits in and around your heart, or even in your brain. There have been several studies that have been able to connect gum disease to heart disease and even dementia problems.
If you want to avoid this type of buildup in your body, you need to make sure you treat gum disease at its earliest stages. Better yet, try and avoid getting it in the first place. However, if you already have it, your best bet is to make sure you do not neglect it. Treat it now and decrease the chances that it could lead to problems like a heart attack or stroke.
