Things that Cause Gum Pain
There are many things that can cause gum pain. Cavities, tooth decay and infections are a few of them. These are the types of problems that a dental professional should help with. There are other causes that you can probably deal with on your own.
- Stuck Food – It is possible for food to get stuck between the teeth and gums. Popcorn kernels, corn on the cob and other similar foods are notorious for doing this. The solution to this is fairly simple. Remove whatever is stuck. It is important not to cause more damage to the gums when removing the stuck food. That can lead to more gum pain.
- Cuts and bruises – It is possible to suffer a cut on the gums. While you cannot put a band aid on the gums, you can still do somethings to help heal the wound and stop the pain. Rinsing with essential oils is one way to accomplish this.
- Gum Inflammation – Inflamed gums can have many causes. It is not always a serious problem, but you still need relief. Rinsing with warm salt water or with essential oils diluted in salt water can reduce the inflammation.
It is important to know when you have gum pain that you can treat at home and when you need to check with a dental professional. If the gum pain is intense and persistent or if interferes with eating and sleeping or if there are other symptoms, it is best to call our offices for help.
