Periodontists: Who are They and How Can They Help?

Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that occurs due to poor oral hygiene. It is mainly the result of bacteria that builds up between gums and the teeth. Over time, the build-up of this bacteria increases and results in the loosening of teeth and eventually tooth loss. Early detection and treatment can help reverse the effects of periodontitis and help you save your teeth. This is where a periodontist comes in.

Who is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontists are dentistry’s specialists who receive an additional three years of training in the highly specialized field of periodontic dentistry. These are both invasive and non-invasive treatments for periodontitis, including periodontal plastic surgery procedures as well. A periodontist also specializes in replacing the missing teeth caused by periodontal disease with dental implants.

Non-Invasive Periodontal Treatment

According to periodontal disease treatment best practices, it is advised that periodontal health be achieved without the use of surgical intervention, and with cost-effective treatment options. Non-surgical periodontal treatment options is a great way to treat periodontitis in patients. However, non-surgical periodontal treatment does have its limitations. In severe cases of periodontal disease, the dentist will have to choice but to turn to surgical intervention for rebuilding damaged bone.

Once you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, we will go through all of the viable options and will try to find the best non-surgical periodontal treatment that’s convenient and cost-effective ensuring that you can get back to your normal life in no time.

To find out more about the various non-invasive periodontal treatment options that are available, you can contact Dr. Jutkowitz and Dr. Edward I. Jutkowitz at Edward I. Jutkowitz, D.M.D., P.C. – Periodontics and Implantology, who are always ready to help answer your questions and guide you through the treatment process.
