Your Gums Should Not Hurt or Throb Constantly

When your gums hurt or throb constantly, you could have an underlying oral condition. There are several conditions that cause gum pain, bleeding, and swelling. Some of these causes include gum disease, rough flossing and bushing, and canker sores.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is the main cause of gum pain, swelling, and bleeding. It is a serious, serious oral condition that affects your gums. There are many causes of gum disease, but poor oral health is the main one. If you don’t brush or floss your teeth on a regular basis, you are more likely to develop gum disease. Gingivitis is the most common form of gum disease.

It is the first stage of the condition, and it can be reserved through proper oral hygiene. Therefore, you can stop your gums from hurting by maintaining good oral hygiene. You can also seek treatment from our offices. If gingivitis is not treated, it advances to a more severe condition known as periodontitis. This condition is irreversible and often leads to tooth loss.

Rough Flossing and Brushing

Your gums can also hurt due to aggressive brushing and flossing. This habit can irritate not only your gums but also damage them. Furthermore, using a toothbrush with hard and stiff bristles can also have the same effects. Therefore, you should brush your teeth gently using a soft-bristled toothbrush. Such toothbrushes clean your teeth and gums thoroughly, reducing the risk of oral infections.

Canker Sores

Also known as mouth ulcers, canker sores could also be the cause of gum pain. They are non-contagious sores that mostly appear on your gums and other parts of your mouth. They are predominantly red and have a white coating. The exact cause of mouth ulcers is not known, but you can prevent them by maintaining good oral hygiene. Contact our offices for more information on gum health and its importance.
